Is there a way to hide/remove the progress bar above the page number on epub files? it’s really distracting. Thank you!

That should be simply a case of removing that feature in the source code, (much similar to “hide scrollbars” was recently added by a user) but its unlikely to be desired by many users.
The more common request has been to add more info to the bar, but anyone can make a pull request as long as it works for all users.
If you do edit the source code and wish to add it for other users, ensure you add all the necessary controls to make it an option in every user case.

The eBook interface when updated may drop that feature (amongst others) so it may just be a case of wait and see what version 3.3 later offers.
